Walk for the Wild 2022

  • 3500 Kilauea Road Kilauea, HI 96754 United States (map)

Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week, October 8-15th, by joining us for Walk for the Wild!

Because our supporters come from far and wide to visit our three Kauaʻi Refuges and support our work, our Walk for the Wild event will be VIRTUAL. That means, we're asking you to join our team, find ways to experience nature wherever you call home, and support our work.

Your contribution will support the protection of iconic species and the places that provide some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities on Earth…and on our beautiful island.

What is Walk for the Wild? Walk for the Wild is a national effort to get as many people moving on behalf of the Refuge System. The goal is to raise funding and leverage donations to build the capacity of Friends groups and nonprofit partners of National Wildlife Refuges.

Please sign up to walk today and share this invitation with friends, family members and other wildlife enthusiasts. A portion of your donation will be matched by national supporters of Walk for the Wild and the Public Lands Alliance.

How to Register / Join / Help:

  1. Visit our event site online - FKWR Walk for the Wild.

  2. Join our team.

  3. Make an optional donation to help our Team reach our fundraising goal.

  4. Make plans to walk at your local Refuge, park or a natural area in your community. It’s up to you how you move —walking, jogging, hiking, strolling, or whatever you choose—either manually, or using your favorite fitness tracker. The suggested distance is 5K (3.1 miles).

  5. Share your challenge experiences on social media with the hashtags #WalkForTheWild, #WildlifeRefuge and #SupportTheWild.

Your support will help:

All proceeds of Walk for the Wild will help underwrite the cost of care for sick and injured wildlife transferred from one our Refuges to our partner Save Our Shearwaters. Annually, we fund the cost of care, which is approximately $20,000 per year.

What you get:

Check back soon. We will be posting virtual glimpses of our three Refuges with content exclusively for event participants.
