Community Education and Outreach

Historically, up to 500,000 people per year have visited Kīlauea Point NWR to enjoy its immense beauty, experience our wildlife and learn about the history of the Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Point Lighthouse.

One of the signature initiatives of Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges is our Community Education Program.

Our team staffs the Visitor Center and Nature Store at Kīlauea Point NWR. We share our passion for this special place, information about the wildlife conservation, habitat maintenance and environmental education programs carried out by our Refuge partners, tips on how we can each help - while visiting the Island of Kauaʻi and wherever our guests call home - and other information about our mission.

Together, we protect, preserve, educate and inspire!

Community Events

We assist our Refuge partners in connecting with and educating members of our community.

We help get the word out about the work of our three national wildlife refuges by sharing information about our native Hawaiian wildlife and the protected spaces they depend upon to rest, nest, forage and thrive across our three national wildlife refuges.

We also connect with our community by providing engaging activities for keiki and families, recruiting volunteers, building a community of supporters and sharing the story of our three amazing national wildlife refuges.
